Braided Brake Lines Little Help

  1. #1
Right well i want to refit my car with full braided brake lines, the thing is i get the fittings and that not sure how you are suposed to link them to the hose but i see on like demon tweaks they sell the hose for 9 quid or somthing for 1.

but 1 what ? meter ? can anyone help me with all this as im getting rather confused ....

Okay, braided lines replace your rubber hoses, the ends just unscrew. (well, they're supposed to unscrew).

If you want braided hoses, i recommend swampy. He's on here and i think they're £48 delivered. As with all braided lines, you'll probably need to widen the holes on various brackets on the car. I use a grinding stone which goes in the drill, much easier than removing brackets and using files.

You'd probably benefit from having the knowledge and skills to flare new brake pipes incase any of the originals snap.

Kris, I think hes talking about making his own.

Yeah its per metre dude. Im sure merlin motorsport used to sell it for about 80p per 10cm.

Meant to say, you buy the fittings you require, unscrew the end, pass the hose through the end cap and onto the fitting itself, then screw the end cap back on.

Kind of like making coaxial cable.

You need hose, sockets, olives and ends.
Fittings dpending on what you want start at around £5 each.

Assembling them is relativly easy to do. Just have to take your time and make sure the olive is well down between the braid and liner to get a good seal.
Getting the seal is the hard part, thats why i leave it to the experts to supply me.

well im wanting to replace all my lines with the stuff so all the copper stock stuff needs to go.

But the problem on an EK is the ABS unit it's that that splits the 2 outs o the Mc into 4 then 2 pipes go into a balancer for the rear then 2 pipes go to the back to each caliper.

I want to remove the ABS so what do i need to get to pull 2 pipes from the MC into 4 and have less brakes on the back ....

also what size do you guys recomend for Brake lines and what size for fuel lines ? this is the bit i was strugling to understand anyway

Most systems run 2lines from the mc and then have four out of the abs.
You would need to split the lines with t pieces.

As for what size you need
    -3 for brakelines
-6 is what is commenly used for fuel lines, that gives you an id of 9.sumthing mm.
You have to make sure that is as big as standerd otherwise go up to -8which is around 11mm id.
Will the fuel lines be run internaly?

ah i see so i could run somthing like this ..

1 line out of the mc - T piece - 1 line to each front caliper

1 line from the MC to the rear of the car in the middle a brake ballance controller ( or if i used 2 pipes i could use the standard balancer maybe ? ) then split up to each caliper ? so both exits from the MC are usable there isnt one less powerfull than the other ?

if this is the case i'm well happy i was told it would be expensive but if its that i wont need more than 5m of pipe and 10 or 20 fittings and would look hot as fook.

All the lines are running internal through the car if i re-do them got to have somthing like that on show ...

bout the fuel lines though how do i adapt to my fuel pump as standard it's just a pipe hooked over an end with a clamp on ?

Bet you need alot more than 5 metres of pipe.
A saxo uses more than that.
As for fuel lines be very careful what you get,.!
You need the lined pipe which doesnt leak vapours, and for this you wont be able to clamp it to your existing fuel pump, the fittings for this type of hose are all screw on type.

ah so that would mean getting a different fuel pump? don't know if the Walbrow ones accept screw in ones.

and don't know about length of pipe mate, if i use 1 line to the rear and split them up at the back i dont think i'd use that much ....

but with the standard proportioner i think i mite use allot more lol.

wich out of the 2 setups above mentioned would you recomend swampy and i'm thinking these pipes

    this for brakes :

if worst comes to the worst i'l keep the standard fuel lines and just uprate the clutch line and brake lines...

also i see there are allot of thread tipes wich one am i ment to use ? i presume everything standard is metric ?
  11. #11
You use the fitting which is the closest to the standerd fitting.
  12. #12
lol and how do i know what the standard fitting is ?

i'm thick i know but i gotta ask lol
  13. #13
You look at whats on the car.
Remember to use bulk head fitting to pass thru any panels, do not just use hose and grommits.
  14. #14
why is that then mate ?
  15. #15
You dont want the hose rubbing thru if it moves around leading to a hose / brake failure
you would need at least three of them.
Ill pop some images up later of the ones i use.
  16. #16
ok cool the conectors seem to be the most expensive bit of doing this anyways
  17. #17
swampy do you actually sell all this stuff if i do i'd be more than happy to have the stuff off you seen as the great help youre prooving also got a mate wanting a full kit for his pug 205gti ...
