Gearbox query

   Am thinking of buying another cheap saxo from a mate but the car seems to sometimes crunch when changing down into first when moving. It will also sometimes crunch when 1st gear is selected whilst stationary. Its easy to get it into 1st gear - i.e it goes in smoothly but is followed by the crunch.
   
   Pretty sure its not the synchros because if it were it would crunch 100% of the time and not just sometimes, the other gears are perfect.

   check the clutch and gearbox oil level mate

   Its had a recent valeo clutch kit and new oil aswell. Does anyone think a dodgy gear linkage may cause this? I do remember the short linkage breaking at the rubber end so used some alradite to hold it in..
