Carpet Removal

   Hows it going lads,
   
   Basically i recently found some major rust under the car and wanted to go about removing the carpet to check all the footwell and stuff but ive gotten it up and its come to the middle part where the center console stands, and i just cant get it past the metal rod thats there. Do I have to cut the carpet to get past it or am i doing somthing wrong?
