VTR Mk2 Gearbox

   car currently has 62k miles, and now and again, not every time, the gearbox refuses to go into 2nd and 4th.
   
   when i say refuses, it feel hard, and feels as though its not in properly.
   
   first guess, lubricant/oil?
   second, new box?
   
   ideas?

   Linkages are ~£22 from a Citroen dealer, there is 3 of them. 2 are the same size 1 is larger, not sure which ones do what gears.
