Important! : Clutch? 1.1 Desire.

  1. #1
    Hi Guys,

    I think my missus's clutch/slave cylinder is going/gone on her 1.1 Desire?

Last night she mentioned the bite had moved, the clutch doesn't bite until the pedal is almost all the way out whereas before the bite was half way on the pedal.

Also when it's in gear and the clutch is completely out, if you put your foot down on the accelerator the revs go up but the car doesn't pick up any speed!

I'm pretty certain it's the slave cylinder but if she's going to have it fixed she may as well have the whole clutch changed. My question is, does anyone know how much it would cost (approximately) labour wise to replace the clutch?

    Cheers

Have you tried adjusting the clutch cable so the biting point is different?

    Steve.

I haven't mate, is it easy enough to do?

Yep you'll need a new clutch thats exactly how mine went.

I adjusted the clutch cable but it was still slipping. I was charged around 150 for labour to change a clutch, which involved changing the gearbox oil too.

Oh does the pedal feel really soft, not springy?

The pedal feels quite stiff I think, I have a C2 VTS and mine feels really soft compared to the missus's.

I'll adjust the cable tonight and see if it sorts the problem but if not then it looks like a new clutch. The adjuster the clutch theirs 2 bolts isn't their? Undo the first bolt and the turn the second clockwise to tighten the cable?

Yep, thats how you tighten it

Mine was soft cos the springs went. and the friction plate was worn down quite bad, so it could be that

Ok, fingers crossed then it's just the clutch cable, the missus will be gutted if she has to fork out for a new clutch 4 weeks before our holiday.

I am also having this problem bud. I went to drive the car and it didnt go past 20mph. going excatly the same its a 1.1 sx i tried to make it tighter but the car wouldnt move.. so i loosened it again and the car is moving a little but the pedel is closer to the floor. Can someone maybe help me out with this too? sorry for jumping your thread

sounds like your clutch is slipping aswell Sammyd ( i.e the engine revs up when you try to accelerate in gear but the car doesnt gain speed which is the clutch slipping), whenever i adjust saxo clutch cables they never seem to alter the biting point much at all, just raises and lowers the clutch pedal

so does that mean i need a new clutch bud? 2 cars and none work lol

sound's like it yeah, the only blessing is that those gearboxes are a doddle to remove

    This.

I adjusted the clutch cable last night and the result - no bite on the clutch whatsoever. I could get it in gear and let the clutch all the way out without the car stalling or moving. Looks like a new clutch then .

    Thanks for the advice guys.
