Rattling

the rattling is coming from the handbrake cable slightly touching the exhaust just infront of the fuel tank.

now, when i bought my car the previous owner said that all the brakes and cables had been done. It looks to me that there is too much excess cable around the exhaust, is there a way to get it out of the way of the exhaust? it only needs to move, what, no more than 1cm.

ive tried to put a cable tidy round it and attach it to something else but upon driving with this 'quick fix' the car didnt feel as responsive as before, is this because the handbrake cable had been tightened slightly, causing the brakes to be on a little? or was it just me?

any help would be appreciated guys,
    thanks

Have you tried adjusting the handbrake cable so theres not so much slack?

Handbrake cables are of different lengths depending on whether you have drums or discs, i'd check they are the correct cables
