Starting out

    Hi all

Just aquired myself an R Reg Saxo 1.1 Sport would you believe. Been driving 7 years and have never had to deal with a car this old.

Anyways, this is going to be my baby for the next few years hopefully. Its got 98k on the clock and as i mentioned, i want to squeeze what ever life is left in it.

Just passed its MOT and has around 11 months. No recent service from what i can tell.

I'm going to proceed with a home service in the next month. I know of the basics (oil change etc) but if someone wants to put their professional handle on things that would be appreciated.

What things would i be looking to service/replace?
Any information on how long these cars last?
    Am i insane?

My shopping list at the moment consists of:

    Oil
    Oil Filter
    Brake Fluid
    Air Filter
    Sparks
    Leads

    Anything to add?

Thanks in advance and keep up the good work.

fuel filters pretty easy its under the side of the car just infront of the rear passenger wheel, well it is on my saxo im pretty sure it will be in a similar place. just unclips and the new one clipped back on takes about 5 mins oh and you will probably need a new strap to hold it in place as they break easily but they are really cheap Ive never replaced the pollen filter on mine unsure if saxos have one? lol

Thanks for the info. Will i need to be weary of any fuel that comes pouring out?

yeah of course be weary of fuel! obviously keep sparks and flames away and if you smoke.. then it wouldn't be the best time to have a fag just make sure you clean it all up after

    Cambelt checked

I a little unsure as to where that is. Are they chains on some cars? I have a rubber one to the left lower side of the engine connected to the alternator?

that would be the alternator belt.
the cambelt is on the side of the engine block, on the left hand side, under a plastic cover.
