Hi people, im new to the forum and also know NOTHING about cars so please take it easy on me.
I had a problem this morning with my 1.1 Saxo Desire. For some reason, whenever I would come to a stop the engine with cut out! THe amount of times it happened was shocking yet quite worrying. Its like the car didnt want to idle at 1000 revs.
To try and give a clear understanding of the problem, ill walk you through what happened. I was driving towards a junction and needed to stop so as usual, i appluied the break and clutch down together to come to a stop but as soon as I did this, the engine would cut out! The battery sign would be displayed on the dashboard along with the oil sign. I was going to call the RAC out as it had happened so many times but after dropping my son to nursery, everything seemed ok again. I work out of town so have to drive on the motorway to work and it was fine.
Any idea's what this problem is or what could have caused it? Could it happen again? Anyone else had this before?

I presume it starts again with no issues??

Could be the ICV (Idle control valve) needs replacing.

May actually be worth disconecting the battery first though for 30 minutes and connecting back up as this resets the ecu.

sorry, i forgot to answer your question about it starting again properly. It sometimes took a bit of time (like 4-5 secs when normally it would start within 2 secs).
I think it could be a problem with the idle control thing as it would stay at 1000revs and would just cut out
