Power Steering Failure. HELP !!!!!!

   My power steering has just stop working, the heaters and demister are working but when i looked under the bonet at the power steering pump it was smoking and making a horrible burning smell. Is the power steering pump stuck or seized ? I've tried taping it with a hammer but still no joy. I need to get it to a garage but am unsure whether or not it is safe to drive ? Also does the water pump work of this or is it run of the alternater ?, last thing i want it a overheating engine ?

   Water pump driven off cam belt so no problems there.
   Your PS pump is likely goosed and will need replaceing along with some new fluid. Not a really hard job but might be fidly access wise. If garage is local - like 5-10 mins shoudl be okay. The pump is protected by a fuse as you expect so any large (dangerous) current draws would pop the fuse before any damage occured to the loom etc.

   Or if your really worried about it just take the fuse out to get it to a garage
