Coilover conversion advice......?

  1. #1
Removed my front suspension from the 106 today.... it has bilstein group n dampers in mint condition so ill keep using these, ill be having some new struts that have been converted to a coilover setup in the next few weeks....

i have thick black cap bilstein rear group n shocks, and am planning to use 22/23mm rear bars

my question is, for the coilover conversion setup to be complete i require springs.... with 22/23 bars and this bilstein setup what lb's rated springs shall i go for and where can i get them from?

faulkner? the car will be used primarily on track?!

    thanks

250 lb faulkners ftw.Im only one 200lb atm and use it daily. But could easily go harder!

250lb? sounds good? would say 300 be overkill and will i need helpers also?
  5. #5
Dont you need to get normal billie grpNs revalved for that much lb spring?

Id still not bother though, they feel quite harsh imo, id get pugsport grpNs they feel much smoother

not looking to change really.... so 250 or 300 lb springs will be too much fo the bilsteins?

For normal grPn's im sure. Im abit out of touch, im sure someone will back it up or correct me.

I really wouldnt use them though, very harsh.

may try them first i think and see how i like them, thanks for the advice

anyone else suggest a spring rating?

Bilsteins will become harsh if the inertia valve within them is worn or faulty. as standar and in fully working order they are usually a fantastic damper

rally design and merlin motorsport sell coilover springs

I would go to faulkner directly. they have a website. or give them a call
  12. #12
well the bilsteins are in mint condition recently fitted by previous owner, after reading a few threads by sandy over on rr i think ill go for 23mm rear bars and 250 or 300lb springs

will i need helpers too though? and 2.25 or 2.5" diameter? and what length?
  13. #13
I've never used helpers on coilovers, they're only there to pass a mot.

And spring diameter depends on what conversion kit you're going to use

Right ok, so leave the helpers, and just get same diameter springs as the collar that comes with conversion kit?

    how about length - 6" 7"?

7" spring sounds good and most kits say what size spring you need, usually its 2.25"
