horrible grinding sound

hi guys, bit of an issue with my car

i was driving down the motorway when all of a sudden this very loud deep grinding sound started coming from my front drivers side wheel well somewhere, i pulled over and had a look but cant see nothing, although i did notice the rubber on the driveshaft had split and oil was getting out but surely i cnt be a driveshaft grinding?

anyway set off again and it was gone, but a mile later started again, seems to be getting worse tho.. any ideas?

    thanks

Jack it up and spin the wheel, might help you locate the noise could be a wheel bearing but hard to know without hearing the noise, make sure nothing is rubbing on the disc also

    update:

had the wheels off the car today to no avail, all looks normal beside the driveshaft, but i was told these wont grind only click,

when driving the car it dosent do it when acceleration, or sometime turning, iv checked power steering fluid that fill well above the MAX

if the sound doesnt happen when you got your foot down, does it sound when you press the clutch if its only happenning when your decellarating in gear id say its the clutch throw-out bearing mate

that will be your wheel bearing. if the noise is there going straight and turning left but disappears when turning right, im pretty sure itl be your left bearing. does it sound like a plain or something and gets louder the faster you go? if so then get the bearing checked

No doesn't get louder or faster had both Cv boots done and just had clutch done so can't be anything to do with clutch

what about when you turn right do you still hear it then?

I had this on mine. The CV boot clamp had decided it didn't want to do it's job any bmore and is on the M50 somewhere. The grease went everywhere, all round my wheels and arch.
So I temporarily fixed it with a shit load of grease and some cable ties but it didn't last long and the grinding started again. I was about 100 miles away from home with no tools thought.
So when I got back back I bought the whole driveshaft assembly and changed the box oil while I was at it. It's totally fine now.

Yeah I had the exact same thing, cv boot split left it a while and driveshaft got knackered and got the horrible grinding.

right guys still doing it, it dosnt get any louder as i speed up, it eases off the more i accelerate, but soons i let of its constant deep grinding, when i turn it eases of, im thinking driveshaft?
  15. #15
oh and the CV boot seems screwed, all the grease has gone everywhere
  16. #16
    cv joint maybe then?
  17. #17
yup 2 new shafts on there way now
