Engine bogging down at 3000rpm

   My mate has a vauxhall zafira and when driving in any gear as soon as it reaches 3000rpm it bogs down and wont rev any further.
   
   The same also happens when its in neutral.
   
   Any ideas on what this could be?

   what engine size is it? is it petrol or diesel?

   3k on the TDI models is were the turbo takes over, i'd start there.
   
   The "limp mode" on zafiras is about the 3krpm mark too, diagnostics could be in order?

   The Catalytic Converter has collapsed inside, I will put all my money in my bank on it being that.

   Its a 1.6 Petrol V-reg.
   
   SO you reckon the cat? To test this we could remove the cat and see if it revs freely?
