VTR spluttering

Car ran fine for about a 40 mile trip, started up about an hour after and the engine isn't running well and it is very rough. It doesn't sound healthy and when you put your foot down it is very spluttery and restricted and can barely pull. However, when you turn the engine off then straight back on it is fine except when you put your foot down it will be a combination of it pulling with bits of spluttering in then drive for another short period and the spluttering becomes continuous until you start it up again. It is also accompanied by a flashing EML which then stays on. When the engine is struggling you can actually feel the movement of the engine moving the whole car and it sounds like a tank tbh.

Any thoughts on what could be causing this? Thanks in advance

Could be one of many things.... but i would check the coil pack...

I would suggest it has a misfire causing lack of power. I would guess its either coil pack (common fault) or a plug. You could have the car scanned and that would tell you which cylinder it is or if its a injector fault. But coil pack my guess.

Thanks for the replies. The problem no longer seems to occur constantly. the car revs fine till about 2500rpm then reaches a continuous splutter and sounds and feels like its kind of being limited/restricted and you have to change up then if that provides any more symptoms as to the cause?

Could still be coil pack mate try swapping it first as its a cheap part to replace. Its an electrical misfire as it happens only when under load so valves etc are not the cause.

No probs its quite hard diagnosing something without seeing it lol but it deffo sounds like that to me but I have been wrong before. Are you having it scanned too or just having a coil pack fitted?
