Important! : Torsion bar problems!!

  1. #1
so after lowering the front of my car yesterday, me and the old man set about lowering and refurbing the rear beam, we disconected the dampers and did the measuring etc, removed the anti role bar. removed all the torsion bar torx bits and offset washers, we managed to remove the bottom torsion bar (nearest the rear of the car), and thus allowing us to remove the right hand trailing arm to replace bearings and seals. but we cant get the top torsion bar out (nearest front of car) so we cant remove the left hand trailing arm, weve tried the bolt and socket method, and the 'big drift and big hammer' method and both these methods at the same time and still no luck, used the blow torch and about a can of penetrating oil but we cant get it to budge. weve been at it all afternoon and just come in now. can anybody suggest another method to remove it? or is it just a case of keep soaking it in penetrant and keep whacking it?

    any help much appreciated!
    sorry for the essay.

    ricky.

we have a couple of big bars weve been using, they are literaly the same size as the torsion bar but dont cover the splines so it wont smash the splines when it does go, been whacking shit out of it all afternoon and it just wont budge, dads just about had enough now seeing as his hands are twice the size from hitting them with the lump hammer. lol. just keep banging it i guess it has to give in at some point. guna try some more heat tomorrow i think
