whining sound?

   got a mk1 vtr, and it has a whining sound lol only does it in 5th gear and as i accelerate in 5th it gets louder and higher pitch, sounds almost like a supercharger lol is this normal? just hoping its just the induction, the car is standard by the way, no mods

   nope gear box is smooth as silk, selects no problems and goes into gear with no effort at all

   Possible bearings in gearbox mate. It wouldnt make it bad to change gear in just wine.

   Might be wrong but could be the cambelt.

   does the noise disappear when you turn left or right but stay there when you turn the opposite way?for example straight theres noise,left theres noise, right noise disappears
   if so then its a wheel bearing.

   mine does this, it started just doing it in 5th but its getting worse. does the noise goes when you lift off? mine does...
   turning doesnt make a difference

   yea dude it does that, no effect when turning its constant, gets louder and higher pitch the faster you go, stops when you lift off

    sounds same as mine, could be a few things but first id check the tension of the cambelt, i duno how to do this as the garage will be doing mine because its only whining since they fitted the new kit. but it sounds as though its to tight mate.
