Help, Vtr problems!

  1. #1
I just bought a vtr t reg, and now things are going wrong! Only thing ive done is put in a new head unit, just went in without a fuss. Then a few days later i noticed that the dash lights weren't working, cos its blown fuse 12 somehow and keeps blowing a fuse every time i put a new one in! Read your forum, and seems as if its likely a pulled out wire or something. Is there any easy way of fixing this without checking every wire listed as attached to the fuse?!
To add to the problem it now doesnt like starting if cold, unless you pump the throttle first, and then it idles really erratically. Again the opinion seems to be a new fuel pump. What i really want to know is, does all this sound right before i start spending money, and any chance they are related? sorry for the essay!

Try removing the stereo you fitted replace the fuse and try it again.

If things started going wrong after you fitted the stereo ,then checking the stereo wiring would be my 1st port of call.I think you`ve either trapped a wire or shorted 1 out.

Check the stereo wiring mate, is it plug and play or all individually wired? As iirc sidelight feed is an earth untill sidelights are on may be a possibility that the stereo earth is wired to them? Which will just blow the fuse

Cheers for the advice guys. Turns out everyone was spot on with the stereo being wired wrong, everything is working now and the fuse doesn't blow. But unfortunately the stereo doesn't keep my settings, which is annoying!
Also the problem with the car not starting properly and idling badly, seems to have turned out to be a dirty idle valve.
I have been told the rattle is something related to the diff. What is the best way of curing this? Thanks for all the help again guys!

Either recon or replacement box will sort out the noisy diff. The stereo problem is an easy job your permanent live and switched live are the wrong way round usually the red and yellow wire swop them around either using bullets or soldering and that should do it.
