Loud engine tappit noise?

    Hi all!
My Saxo VTR has a very loud tappit noise. I have gauged all lifters to spec and its not any better? any suggestions on how to solve this? As it sounds like im driving a Tractor at the moment! Would a blocked gallery cause this problem!?
any suggestion would be greatfull people!

    cheers, Josh

    is the timing out slightly?
Could be something running dry due to a blocked gallery but short of getting the head off you wont know

Well thats a good shout. it had heavy vibration due to a broken engine mount, have now replaced and vibration has gone. all though when its running i get the odd jump? which would suggest timing right? hows the best way to check the gallerys??
    thanks Gandi

Check the timing first, havent had it happen on a saxo but an 8v k-series. Timing slipped out by a couple of teeth and it sounded like a bag of spanners. Galleries wise just whip the head off and have a look, if the ones in the head are gunked up i'd just clean them out or blast them with an airline

    any suggestions?

Not everyone will agree with this but I would use an engine flush followed by an oil change to clear out the gunk in the engine.Taking the head off sounds a bit drastic.

are you sure your doing the tappets correctly? as if its every one tapping it would suggest not....

some of them just tap, my old ones did, when theyre worn they tap, i stopped my last ones tapping by using the next size down on the feelers, set inlet and exhasut to .10 i think?? cant remember now, ran quiet as a mouse

could also be noisey injectors, VERY common and sounds the same

Im pretty sure i did it right. 20 inlet 30 exhaust. i know some are noisy but this is NOISY! ha. and its deffinatly top end as you can hear it up close to the head. so its either my dodgy attempt of adjusting tappits or the timming is out?? just want it to run smooth rather then a bag of s**t.
