vts gear box leak

   hi i have a p reg vts saxo and i have a leak on the gera box where the drive shft goes in to it had a look at the bible and it say there is a oil seal behind the drive shaft .
   
   has any one ever done this for there self as im going to try to sort it this weekend thanks

   ive got the same leak! but im after a new gear box, so im leaving it

   you mean the crank seal? the part is around £10 but you have to take the gearbox out.

   the part is 5 to 7 pound plus vat and its the frist seal when you pull the drive shft out page 7a4 in the haynes bible

   Crank seal?..... nah wouldn't be that at the driveshafts, crank leak would come form the flywheel cover as its in side the bell housing.... He means where the driveshaft splines engage the sun gear in the diff so.....its a differential seal.... I have the same problem but like most things at the mo can't be arsed to fix it so just run around with g/box oil in the boot.... would take about 30 mins to replace (if that!) don't know the price of it

   each diff seal or as i call them driveshaft oil seal costs about £3-5 each and takes about 5 mins to do once the shafts are out. NOt a box off job, just shafts out and replace your oil.

   not difficult but dont make the same mistake i did (drain the gearbox oil first or else itll end up all over your drive)

    hi lads got the seals today 1 was 6.56 and the other 1 was 8.76 with the vat on it was just short off 18.00 pound got some gear box oil 18.00 and a new oil fillter 4.50 and some oil 17.00 will take some pics of work if i can cet my camra to work lol thanks for all the help ....

    WTF!.... £18.00 for g/box oil!... you only need 2litres and even the good stuff at my local motorfactors is £7 for 4litres! lol.... nice one for getting all the "gear" though... see what I did there lol
