car temperature problem vtr

  1. #1
basically the car keeps getting really hot mainly while stuck in traffic and not moving. at first i thought it was cuz the fan wasnt working but got it fixed and its still doing it.

any help or suggestions of what to check would be great. thanks

it also does it if you are in high revs

how hot is it getting? its normal for the temp to go upto about 3/4 on the gauge, would'nt worry about it if its cooling down when the fan kicks in? and not excessively hot i.e gauge right at the top

Hi , my vts gets "hot" quickly aswell , to be honest saxos quite often go up to the 3/4 mark on the gauge anyway aslong as your fan is working it should cool the engine back down nicely for you whilst your stuck in traffic etc.

It should never go to 3/4, the fan should kick in just over half way.

Mine has always sat at 1/4 and sometimes lower when going 70mph.

OP, you may have an air lock, bleed your system and see how it goes.

it depends my my fan kicks in just after half way but when sitting in traffic for long periods of time my needle almost always goes up to 3/4 before the fan starts to bring it back down - then again i only have one fan

and yeah sounds like an air lock because the water may not be getting through all your engine causing it to get hot whilst not moving

the fan has only just been fixed when it wasnt working a couple days ago and i was stuck in traffic and the car was idle a few times and the temp went right to the top which is the first time its done that. but it would just keep going up normally to like 3/4 or a bit more in traffic the fan wasnt working so would only cool down when i wasnt stuck in traffic.
now the temp keeps going right to the top even when im doing like 40-50mph it does cool down a bit but then it goes back up again, could it be head gasket ?

    ps sorry for essay

Bleed it first, an air lock is a simple fix, to take it apart and replace the Head Gasket before bleeding it or looking for other issues is a waste of time and money lol.

Mine sits at just over 1/2 way it used to go up to 3/4 until I changed the coolant temp sensor.
