Starter Motor Dead?

    Morning everyone

Since I got my Furio, its always had a tantrum when starting, and it sounds like that starter motor is spinning but not engaging on the flywheel and turning the engine over .

I initially was told when I got the car that it was because of the aftermarket alarm and immobilisier, having stipped it last night this is not the case !

Just want to double check that its definatly going to be the starter motor thats fucked , and yes I have tried WD40 and hitting it with a hammer its just got gradually worse and worse to the point it wont start at all without being bumped

It`s more than likely the starter the ring gear has probably worn away so it spins & doesn`t engage.

If it was the solenoid the starter wouldn`t spin.

Sound, Just so long as I know. Im going to get another one today to put on

    Hopefully it does the trick.

So you reckon its the gear inside that pushes it out to the flywheel ?

When your solenoid energizes the ring gear it spins the teeth on the ring(it`s cog wheel)become worn so they don`t spin the flywheel. That`s what sounds like has happen with yours.Easiet way of taking off the starter is from underneath no need to take off the inlet manifold as others might suggest doing.

    Ahh I see.

I already had it off last night, I do it from the top without the inlet off, always have !

The teeth on the starter motor were quite worn like you say.

The starter motor can still spin without engaging, it just wouldnt engage with the flywheel, the solenoid kicks the gear out to engage with the flywheel, then it powers up the motor, hence the name pre-engaged starter motor.

I had the same problem, i had to whack the solenoid because it was seized and wasnt engaging with the flywheel, however the starter motor was still spinning.

either the starter is on its way out as said... or your battery is fucked/for whatever reason not charging properly
