some numpty sprayed bumper

  1. #1
Basically the numpty who had my vtr before me sprayed the bumpers black straight onto the plastic (i don't even know if it was proper plastic paint) and its now flaking off horribly.

What's the best way to get rid of the paint?

i've thought about sanding but wasn't sure if that would damage the plastic, i've also wondered if some kind of plastic friendly paint stripper would do the job?

    any advice is appreciated

Your going to need wet/dry paper 1st with plently of water, then see what it looks like ie does the bumper need respraying.

what grain would you recommend? the paint looks very thin maybe just the one coat.

    thanks

Sounds like he has just sprayed straight onto the plastic without sanding it to give the paint something to bite to. You need to sand it all off and either get it resprayed or do it yourself.

    Any pics?

I'd just sand it all off and then respray it properly either yourself or get a sprayer to do it coz I doubt its gonna come off without makin a few marks on the plastic

could try a strong pressure washer to get it off

i clean it mostly with a pressure washer but not a really powerful one, and bumper spray seems to say that i dont need to primer beforehand, is this advisable?

ye he hasnt keyed it off mate just sprayed it which is cauding the paint to flake you could try sanding it back and feathering it out but it might need completly redoing. fizzy tins arnt the best to spray it with either mate
