Power Steering

    Hi All,

My dear old 2000 W VTR currently has no power steering. Im having someone have alook at the ole girl tomorrow to determine whether its the pump or relay that has gone (hopefully the relay) As the heater and fan still work!

If its the pump gone, does anyone know the part number for said pump?

Or anywhere that i can get one?

Also, as my knowledge of cars is very limited to putting petrol and oil in, how much of a job is it? As ive been quoted some really quite expensive prices!! And as the ole girl has now done nearly 140k miles and is our run around car i dont really want to spend much on her to keep her on the road.

If anyone can help that will be brilliant!

    hi mate

fitting the pump is not a difficult job max an hours labour at any garage, thats allowing time for a cup of tea and a biscuit

ul pick up a 2nd hand pump for 50-80 quid, i believe a new one is around 150

Thanks for your reply cossieduncp, any idea where i can get a new one from?

As ive been quoted about £350 fitted inc vat

If its not too much of a job, is it something i could do myself? Bearing in mind my knowledge stated above!?

It's pretty simple, drain fluid, disconnect few pipes, remove old pump (iirc just a few bolts holding it on and will need to disconnect the plug to it), fit new one, new fluid and bleed etc

You make it sound quite an easy job then!!

Ive never done anything on any of my cars in the past, so i know this a bit cheeky. But does anyone have a step by step guide that i could follow?

Turns out that the pump has given way!

So im now on the look out for one, ive had a phone round all my local parts places and the cheapest price ive managed to find locally is £255 inc vat.

However ive had a look at ebay and found one of these...Link below

Anyone used one from these guys before? Feedback score seems very good.

Im going to finally order my pump today, but cant get through to anyone at ACS power steering to clear up a few points.

Ive read that there are two different types of power steering pump...Mine doesnt have the power steering fluid resorvoir on the side, mine is on top via a hose....The other type are with the resorvoir on the side..

For example on there website it lists one from years 95/99. And one from 99 to 04.

Does the one from years 99 to 04 have the resorvoir on the side or not?

I dont want to shell out £190+ on the wrong one.

    My car is a 2000 w VTR

Any saxo power steering pump will fit,yes as you say some have the long hose bringing it up to the slam panel, others are down the bottom.I think you could probably swap the long hose over.If you want to save yourself a bit of money then pm mandyslover70 on here & get a 2nd hand 1 off him.
