Finding an air leak?

   what can I use to find an air leak, I know people say use brake cleaner but I don't have any about is there anything else I could use that I may have? just saves me driving to halfords or watever to get some but if not i'll just go lol

   vacuum leak on the inlet manifold/pipes

   Smear washing up liquid around the pipe/s where they join rev the engine if you have a leak you`ll get an air bubble.

   May i ask if the pipes are leaking what will it do ?
