Ciggarette lighter not working

   A few weeks back my ciggarette lighter was intermittent and I would have to play about with it to get it to charge my satnav
   
   Now it's not charging my satnav at all and not even heating the actual lighter up.
   Could it be a loose wire or the actual unit itself that's gone ?
   
   Also how do you remove the ciggarette lighter unit ?

   Pain in the arse to remove if you have to do that!, spent about 45mins to get mine out runied the centre console and still never got it out, haha

   piss easy to get out. disconnect all the wiring and tap with a small hammer and the metal part will slowly slide out of the plastic housing. dont whack it just tap it. it comes out fine. done mine loads

   Take it I need to take out the ashtray to get to the wiring ?

   take out whole console. wont get ashtray out from front anyways
