Strange Blower Problem.

  1. #1
Well friends, I know there is no way any of you can fix this, all I have to do it trouble shoot but I was wondering if any of you have had this same problem and could help cut my fault finding time in half...

Basically, I took my dash out and put another one in today, everything works fine apart from the heater blower and the lights that light the heat and fan speed knob, they all worked fine last night so it's obviously something I've done.

I've checked the fuses, traced and checked wires and connections. All are fine.

I'm aware of a problem that can happen under the steering colum but that also means the power steering goes, and mine is fine, I soldered that wire together anyway after it caught fire a few months ago. It's fine.

So, has any of you had just the fan and lighting go randomly?

All I can do it check and recheck the wires for now but any help is much appreciated

Does the heated rear window work? If not its likely to be the ignition switch (not sure if that's what you've soldered?)

The switch for the rear window is broken so I don't know if that works lol.
I soldered the thick brown wire as when it caught fire and burnt in half it took my power steering out, but that is still soldered and my power steering is fine, just the blower and back light that doesn't work :/

There should be two brown wires going to the ignition switch, try scotch locking them together if the blower works its the ignition switch however you can put a relay in to bypass it or leave them scotch locked but this way the heater will work without the car running and drain a lot of power if you forget to turn them off

Yeh I know it'll be always live I believe?

Strange thing is it was fine before I took it apart, makes me think I've forgotten to plug something in...

There is a Brown plug in the steering collum that I can't find a female for, not sure if it was plugged in before lmao.

probably best to recheck the connections then and have a closer inspection at that plug lol

The brown plug on the steering column is probably the plug that hasn`t anything plugged into it as standard. It`s the plug the people bridge with a piece of wire/cable when doing the heated rear window/pas fix, 2 red wires going to it iircAre you sure you haven`t trapped any wires or a wire is touching metal?

Fixed it, it was a plug right under my nose I can't believe I missed it I spent 2 hours checking it all and I walk out here and see it hanging out straight away haha.

Thanks you two for trying though
