Xbox Guide Button Ignition

  1. #1
Alright i don't actually own a car yet, im not old enough, but i've already started thinking of things i can do. one of them is to somehow make it so i can start the car by pushing a button on the front of the steering wheel (big xbox guide button). Also whilst im at it could you program something so that when you turn the car on it plays a startup noise through the speakers (kinda like the windows noise when booting up a pc).

Just wondered if any of this was possible, any replies would appreciated!

good ideas but a bit mad haha
    ask an electrician
  3. #3
The buttons easy. Just buy a normal engine start button and wire the shitbox button on instead. You could make it sound but the engine starting would probs drown it out. I'd buy a car first before worrying about this stuff...
  4. #4
the amount of hassle to do this, you may aswell keep your money.. doing it yourself will more than likely turn out shite (no offence) and putting a start button in the steering wheel will also mean you'll lose the air bag..

so in answer to your question, dont do it. your car is not part of fast and furious
  5. #5
dont see why not although would be a lot of hassle , all your doing is putting a engine push start button on a steering wheel , and replacing the standard start button for a xbox one , sure its alot harder than that though

heres the guide for push button engine start. once you find out which wires to splice into its quite easy to do. if you want it on the steering wheel, id imagine you would have to somehow deploy the airbag and remove the insides, then drill a hole in it and use whatever button you want in the middle. you would then have an airbag light on but if you poke a 3ohm resistor in the airbag wire it should turn it off.

would be easier if you put the button somewhere else though.. why the steering wheel?

haha thats a funny idea, i take it ur a bit of a games console geek

as above though anythings possible will just be time consuming/expensive
  8. #8
Wouldn't that "start up noise" get on your tits after about 10 start ups?

The mx5 has a start button installed, would rather just turn the key though tbh.

Out of curiosity how old are you?

14 by the sounds of it
  10. #10
Unless you had a 360 in the car it would just be shit.
Mounting on the steering wheel would be difficult too because you have to compensate for the fact it turns 360 degrees and it has an airbag in the middle.
  11. #11
its possible just sounds dum thats all, who wants to turn there saxo in to a xbox ??? i would say think long and hard about doing it lmao
  12. #12
Just so you know, you couldnt use the button from the controller as it is a pad on a circuit board so you would need to get a custom built switch which will cost, also the noise would be really annoying
  13. #13
custom switch would be easy to make man, u can lay the xbox button either over a simple push button, or even just make another circuit board.

it is possible if you run the wires through the steering column and through where the indicator self cancel is.

not sure how you would get rid of an airbag without deploying it though
if it deploys then it would ruin the outer casing.
  15. #15
you wouldn't be able to run an airbag. i wouldn't run any electrical cables near the airbag ring in case of chaffing, then bang!

Haha thanks for all the replies! i am a gamer geek but it wouldn't have to be an xbox button, i was more curious about having a start up button on the steering wheel.

im 16 by the way for the person who asked.

i'll probably not do this, especially start up noise, i have too much to worry about (insurance cost -.-) i was just bored and started thinking of ideas to make my saxo a bit more unique (when i get one )
  17. #17
Now why didn't I think oh this pmpl
  18. #18
Hi guys this is my little bro, asking about the xbox button. Iv only just found out about it and have told him just to worry about learning to drive and getting a saxo first lol. He's just getting a little exitable as he went to USC at weekend and it was his first car show lol. Thanks for helping him out tho if I had known I would have told him earlier lol
  19. #19
Bless him a little mad mike keep the ideas coming
  20. #20
lol, button on steering wheel would be piss easy, u could either remove the airebag and use the airbag ring as a 360o cintact as its designed for

or u could just replace the wheel to an after market one with a horn button, then wire the horn into the start system
  21. #21
lol some mad ideas but his car, his choices!
  22. #22
Make the startup round the sound a lambo makes when it starts
  23. #23
think im going to do the button thing. but get rid of centre console vent and smooth it off and have xbox faceplate buton molded in with ipod dock . i have 3 spare xboxs so wont cost me much. already have the fibre glass kit.
  24. #24
why not wire the indicators up to the trigger buttons, pedals up to the abxy buttons and power steering up to the analogue sticks while your at it
  25. #25
Concentrate on the standard mods first ie, lowering, dewiper, tints, alloys (Im guessing your getting a 1.1)

You dont want to waste your time and effort with something that will make you look like a London Rioter.
  26. #26
haha i love how thats become the latest insult lol

Its easier to do the smaller things first, as I mentioned above. If you put your 'guide start' in your car, it'd be harder to resell. And most 1.4's are high mileage, and your insurance will wipe you clean

Maybe you should search ebay for a clue.

Your insurance would rape you so much you get the red ring of death

I know the insurance is bad. Also the whole thing is fucked up because a 1.1 is only £50 cheaper than insurance on a 1.4 for me. It's still over 4k though...
  32. #32
i had a vtr as my first car

insurance has been on the rise lately though so you might be unlucky, just get some quotes. its definately worth getting a 1.4 westcoast opposed to a 1.1 though, as it comes with the vt bodykit etc. and is an overall better looking car.

1.1 saxos look like poo, id rather walk tbh

I'd rather drive my 1.1 then drive a 1.4 with some chavvy lambo sounds from a boombox and a xbox guide button in the vent.

Any 1.1 when modded right looks tasteful.

The 0.3l difference will only effect it on a motorway or national speed limit, or breaking the speed limit.

Wow who jizzed in your cornflakes you miserable fuck? Oh and if you weren't busy insulting the wrong person here you would have noticed I never said anything about a lambo noise.

where the hell are you getting quotes then?

    at 17 i had a 1.4 for £1400 insurance, at 18 i had a starlet gt turbo for the same price. and at 21 i payed 800 for a 1.6 xsi.
  36. #36
Could be done but would be time consuming, interesting idea tho haha

Maybe it was past your bedtime, It was as quoted directed to the person who initially commented he'd rather walk then drive a 1.1

Sorry if it got your nightie in a twist. I was using your 'Mods' as a reason why it's better to start with the general stuff.
