Gearbox whine? With Video...

   I was wondering if anyone could help identify this whine before I bite the bullet and take it to the garage.
   
   The audio quality isn't fantastic, the whine is more noticeable at about :45 seconds in and when I change into 5th. Its a MKII Vtr btw.

   mines doing the same mate... stills drives, sounds like the diff... new gearbox time, whilst its off might as well do the cluch and shafts

   I thought it was the diff... that sounds expensive.

   new gearbox is easier mate... VTR gearboxs go for like £40-£100 plus fitting no silly expensive

   Alright cheers pal. Will look into it, would looking into a different model box be worth considering? i.e vts 1.1 etc?

   depends on what you want, personally i would go for a VTS box or S2 rallye box, best all rouders..
   
   However get a S1 rallye box for rapid off the line but a nightmare on the motorway like 4.5k at 70mph.. 1.1 boxs are weak so i would stay clear of them...

   thers a 106 gti gearbox on gumtree glasgow area for £50. its bit far but u could get it posted if u struggle to get 1?

   defo on its way out mine went on my vts a few months ago just the bearings wear out
