    Any further info?
    As in what is it
    What's broken?
    What should I replace?

    Thanks

its part of the steering rack from the looks of it, just get that rubber cover replaced

I'll be honest, I've not owned a saxo for some time and at first glance I thought it was your CV boot.

On further inspection it looks gearbox related but I honestly can't tell from the pic. Either way, it was meant to be covered in that sleeve for protection. With it exposed like that it'll only cause problems later on down the line.

thats basiclly the piston that moves when you turn lock to lock so it needs to be greased and covered
  7. #7
steering rack gaitor, MOT failure point
  8. #8
12.20 inc VAT for full gaitor kit inc clips
  9. #9
its called a steering rack gaitor

EDIT: damn, jason beat me to it lol
  10. #10
    Easy to change?
  11. #11
not too bad really, double jointed hands help, pain on a VTS
  12. #12
    Only a VTR
    so that's a start
Have a Haynes, that be helpful?
If not, anyone got a guide/rundown?
  13. #13
undo large torx bolt (think its T55) from clamp on end of the ram, turn steering wheel until end of ram comes out of clamp, slide gaitor off,fit new one, build back up
  14. #14
The build back up part seems hardest....
As if I turn it to undo it, turning it back will require it to match straight back in again, I assume?
  15. #15
yep, its not that hard though, easier with an assistant to turn the steering wheel as you guide the end of the ram back into the clamp
  16. #16
    Ok that seems fair
    The price you offered earlier...
    What's included? And including p+p?
  17. #17
includes the gaitor, the rubber cap from the end of the rack which is often missing and all the ties to secure it all, postage is 3 pounds
  18. #18
    Sounds fair
    You do Paypal payments??
  19. #19
yes, pm me, can get it in the post tomorrow
  20. #20
    PM'd you for details
  21. #21
    Sent you money
Just wondering how the 'ahem' I get to the Torx bolt!!??
  22. #22
best way of getting to the torx bolt is with a bit in a ring spanner
  23. #23

    Any MOT issues...?
Or do you have the original air box, as with that the gaiter isn't very visible!
  26. #26
Can't for the life of me get to that Torx bit :@ :@ :@

i was looking at the wrong bit at first, but seriously, that looks like a complete bitch to get to !!!
  28. #28
    Trust me...it is!
I've had the Torx bit in the bolt, but it's too tight in and there is no work space, even with the air filter off!
I don't particularly want to stab through the coolant pipes!

    So it's not a fail???
    Now I am confused!
Or are mechanics just not spotting it?
Mine is only visible after removing the original air filter setup for a raceland one....
  31. #31
deff a fail, depends how picky testers are though. Tontos the kiddy to ask
