Alternator belt squeek

   When i start up from cold the alternator belt squeeks but gets slightly quieter as it gets warm. Does this mean i need a new belt or just need the tension adjusting? Want to get it sorted, squeeking is embarrassing

   Normally it just needs tightening, unless it's been tightened several times before then it's probably time for a new belt!

   It's been tightened up a few times yeah. I'll go and grab a new one, don't really know exactly how tight its supposed to be though

   I'm no expert but I heared that you should be able to push the belt and it wouldn't bend further than half an inch? Can someone clarify this for me? I may be mistaken!
