Squeal when cold...crank pulley??

  1. #1
I'm getting an annoyingly loud squeal from the car when started from cold in the mornings. Stops after about 5 mins.

Me and a mate have changed the alternator belt and checked the tension etc...but he thinks it could possibly be the crankshaft pulley or something??

Does this sound about right or could it be something else?

    It's a 53 plate vts on 65,000k.

Try it without the belt on,if its still there its nothing to do with that and you can look elswhere

It's a brand new belt so it can't be the belt anyway, surely...

    alternator bearing

Crank pulley is a good shout. Remove the belt and see if there's any play in it.

    Could be water pump.

Crank pulley is most likely. Outer ring spins off the rubber, mine did it. Get it sorted asap though because once its tears off completely, you have no alternator and it'll just stop when the battery dies if you're using lights/wipers etc.

i would agree with mini-valver, most likely the case as it happend to me, gmc do a replacement one which doesnt have the rubber bit in the middle. i got one and they are a piece of piss to fit even if you have basic mechanical skills!
