266mm brake differences?

  1. #1
    Hi......

Was looking into 266 mm brakes and have seen that people use a few different ones such as 206 gti, xsara, berlingo e.t.c.

I was just wondering whether there is any difference performance-wise between any of them?

Obviously it's down to the quality of pads, discs and fluid e.t.c. Would be great to find out if callipers off one car are any better than another or whether they are all the same?

    Have a read of this

The general gist of it is, the 266mm discs/callipers come in two sizes one with a 20.7mm wide disc and the other is 22mm. I've just done an upgrade on mine which I wrote a little about here

The callipers are the same performance wise, it's just one takes a bigger disc than the other, and you're right, it is down to which pads and discs you use, and how well you bed them in. I bought some cheap pads and discs for my 247mm originals just to get me by until my new ones arrived, didn't bed them in at all. One has a very big crack going through the middle because of this.

    Cheers for that bud

Yeah was just interested to see if one calliper was better than the other but obviously not really, and it is down to the discs and pads (which I wouldn't be tight with anyway).

Have you bedded them in yet? if so, was it worth the upgrade?

I haven't bedded them in yet (fitting tomorrow) but from what I've been told they are well worth the upgrade. I got my callipers from Mikol who supplies them fully refurbished.

The Mintex pads and discs were £63 including postage from eBay. Which only makes them £20 more expensive for the both over 247mm. Replacing the pads would only cost around a fiver more than the 247mm ones.

The discs I'm using are MDC1491 and the pads MDB2283 bought for £63 on eBay

Message the seller with those part numbers to confirm this is what you're ordering.

Also, these discs and pads are for the 266mm which are 22mm wide, there is another calliper that takes 20.7mm discs. Confirm with Mikol if you're unsure.

Just out of interest, if you don't mind me asking, how much did you get the refurbed' callipers for?
