Aftermarket alarm and disconnecting battery?

  1. #1
I have a 2001 VTR and I'm looking to change the steering wheel. Obviously I need to disconnect battery to avoid the airbag going off, but I have a toad alarm/immobiliser fitted. Will it cause any issues? Or shall I not lock the car before I disconnect the battery?

    Thanks, Carl

should cause any issues at all.

Must admit i never bothered disconnecting the battery when taking the steering wheel off but that was my risk

Just worried about it going off mainly because it will be difficult to put back to standard without buying another airbag :/ I think if I leave the car mobilised and unlocked it should be okay? I don't have any documents with the alarm should something go wrong so I don't know how to re-code it or anything.

    Thanks, Carl

    dont worry about it mate,
i have a toad alarm on my car and have had the steering wheel of loads of time time without dis connecting the battery,
even if you choose to it does not matter if the car is locked or unlocked the alarm will be fine.

Ahh okay thanks for that. Is there anything to watch when disconnecting the airbag with the battery still connected up?
