Clutch problem

  1. #1
The clutch on my vtr has been slipping for a few weeks now and last night I think it eventually gave up I pulled away and there was a loud bang and it died it soon as I let my foot off the clutch it would stall. I managed to have a look underneath today and its lost all the gearbox oil. There is a metal curves shield that volts to the side of the engine and underneath is what I presume is the flywheel when I took the metal plate off a dew bits of bearing fell out cod anyone help me out as what to do next or what's happened ?

Release bearing has fell to pieces by the sounds of it get it to a clutch centre and replace clutch and bearing, should have done it when it started slipping mate

Yeah I know i regret not doing it now so what would cause the oil to dump out like it has ? What's the estimated cost of a garage fitting new clutch and bearing

Best bet is to get it checked over by a garage mate can't really say without looking at it, for a 3 piece clutch fitted id say around 150-200 quid

is there oil coming from inside the gearbox mate

if it lost its oil aswell from in the gearbox something has gone bang and probley damage the gearbox hence the oil leak so probley gonna be a new/second hand gear box aswell as clutch

thinkin the same, it might be the diff gone bang mate, but ya wont really know till the box is out

Well like is said I took that metal cover off the bottom of that covers the bottomof the fly wheel because that's where the oil had come from and in there was the bits of bearing but surely the bearing going would cause oil to get into where the flywheel is

    Wouldn't*

yeah cause the bearing has failed and has pierced or crack the box inside the housing where the flywheel etc is so thats whyyou have oil aswell when release ebaring or pressure plate go bang they can do some nasty damage only thing to do is get the box off and see what has happened

Bet the input shaft seal has been damaged, which is where the oil came from, might be able to get a new one and change it if your lucky.

If not then start looking for a new second hand gearbox

this is how my clutch went bang but without the loss of oil.
i smashed the release bearings to bits together with the metal prongs on the plate

cost me £70 (trade) for a new clutch kit and £90 for a garage to fit it.
