1.4 Furio to 1.6 VTR.........

  1. #1
Was just wondering, would it be possible to fit a vtr engine into a furio without changing looms and everything? Ie just the complete block, swap the 1.4 with 1.6? They are both fairly identical engines too I think so yh.

    Is it possible?

Afaik from reading on here...it is a straight swap.

But, your insurance will go up more than if you bought a VTR.

    Your call.

If you're going to upgrade go for the S imo

definatly change to a S engine mate no point going to a R with a few mods etc can make a furio engine just as powerfull as a R

to answer your original question, yes you can, albeit it wont run aswell as changing over to 1.6 loom ECU.. not 100 sure but u may need to change some sensors aswell

Go for the engine, loom and ECU to play it safe, wont be much more hassle to change the loom and ecu

will be a straight swap but will run really badly as the ecu is mapped for the furio engine, with the furio box on a vtr engine you would get slightly better accelaration but loose out on top end grunt if you are going to spend the money on a conversion i really would just buy a vts engine, gearbox, wiring loom and ecu but honestly by the time you have spend the money doing this would be cheaper to sell your car and buy a vts then you have the knowledge that the auxillaries and bits are designed to take the power that and the insurance for a vts'd or vtr'd furio will be the same if not more than buying an r or s anyway

whatever you deside brother good luck maybe start a progress thread so we can see what you done brother

16v it, My furio is a 16v now and the power difference is very noticable but fuel is too lol. Iv got a mk1 16v engine with a custom vtr wiring loom fitted with a few different plugs, the only thing i dont have is the oil temp and gauge.

tbh with how difficult it is to insure an engine conversion, id rather put in a vtr engine than a 16v engine. the vtr engine looks identical so i wouldnt even worry about declaring it, and costs less than £100 for one as there so common. if you want a 16v, would be cheaper to just buy a vts imo

Just want it for some power, don't want a vts as I drive everyday and the fuel would rinse my wallet lol gona think about it tho possibly I'll find a 3 plug vtr engine and there identical engines anyway so won't have to worry about insurance.

you will still have to tell your insurance company if you have a major accident the ins will send out a claims tech to survey your car when they find out its a vtr engine they will declare your policy invalid and wont pay out

in most cases they rarely even look under the bonnet. with the 1.4 and vtr both being 8 valves they really do look identical.

They wont notice the engine swap unless they check the numbers on them. I know someone that didnt declare his mods, and they missed half of the obvious ones out, let alone an identical engine.

Even if they did find out it was the VTR engine, just claim you didnt know as they look the same.

if your just in an accident they wont notice true but if you kill someone by accident they will go over the car with a fine tooth comb because they have to pay when the 3rd party or family sue (and they will) i seen it done my mate hit someone doing the speed limit and the guy stepped out they took his car and completely gutted it i know folk say they wont notice but the point is if they do you will loose your licence, car and go to prison is it worth it for a few pound a year if you cant afford it dont do it simple

oh and ignorance is not defence and no judge in the land would accept it, if its your car you are expected to know exactly what has been done and its condition if you got pulled with a bald tyre and just said sorry officer i didnt know 9 times out of 10 he would ticket you anyway because its your responsibility to know

Would be easier to buy a VTR mate, but if your up to doing the job go for it, quite a few people have done it
