Window Tinting

Looking at tinting the rear three, MK1 1.1 SX, I've seen some "pre-cut" places, Are these easier than the film? Looking at doing it myself due to bordem

The film comes in rolls of like 3m? precuts you get one per window so if you fuck it up youve just lost £20 & with roll you get it for like £8-14. And imo ive always found it easier having a friend helping that way its less likely to stick together if your mate is holding one end flat

Pre cuts fit the curvature of the window making them more likely to achieve a profesional finish, that being said tho I would go for a roll on ebay if you havnt tryed it before as that way you will get more attempts as your unlikley to master it 1st go.

I need to get tints as well mate, i think i'll use a roll, as stated above, if you mess up a pre cut (You probably will) you've wasted money, with the roll, you can hold it again the window, and draw an outline, then add 2mm (ish) at the top, to allow for pencil thickness, and distance from the sills.

Well thats what i intend on doing, anyone any suggestions?

To be honest mate i would just pay someone to tint them, i got all 5 of mine done for £125! The film they use is better quality than the cheap shit you get off ebay thats alredi pre cut, and if you mess up its a waste of money

how about spraying the inside of the window with tint spray
or is there a special way of doing that

I did that on my old fiesta, looked absolute dog shite mate! The back 2 i would say are easy to do as you can take them out and cut the tint outside of the car etc, when they did my front 2 it looked quite fiddly....

Seriously though dont try and spray tint, its crap

Give it a go mate, if your prepared to spend time on getting them looking good they will be fine. Theres some helpful videos on youtube to aide you tinting.

  10. #10

Window tinting is harder than it looks, it not just the case of cutting to size and sticking on, its a skilled job, like plastering, looks easy, is not.

This is my guy at work http://redwood-tints.co.uk/ he does all of our tinting through my shop, and after watching him do various cars, and seeing lots of "DIY" jobs I can say, get it done professionally.

I've been quoted £100 for lifetime tints on the rear three
Problem with Saxo rear windows, they open, and they have to be taken out
When you put them back in and tighten them up you risk scrunching the tint up at the edges

Leave to the professionals, there is a reason they're called that!

go for the pro's dude.save hasstle and agro

For the sake of a decent job, get it done properly, i used to work as a tinter and i cna honestly say most DIY jobs go shite. we had to correct loads on a daily basis. We quoted about £110 to do all the rear 3..for that kinda price i'd say do it and don't waste your time and money doing a shite job.
