Losing weight off the car is a good place to start. Strip the rear out.

correct me if I'm wrong, that would increase acceleration rather than boost top speed surely?

No mention of top end in the thread he just said speed which I assume he means acceleration.

    Wishful thinking indeed mate.

Any serious performance mod you'll have to declare and accept the increase in premium. I think some insurance companies like to be told about induction kits too
  12. #12
In reality i will... Just tryin to gather some ideas...

    so keep them floodin in
  13. #13
Smaller alloys (less weight), thus less intertia
Small tyre profile too, reduces the rolling radius so you generate more torque at the wheels
    106 rallye/1.1 Gearbox
    Lightened flywheel
    Remove everything useless
  14. #14
    limited slip
  15. #15
    vts engine
    strip out
    bigger breaks
    decent suspension set up
    enclosed filter
    4-2-1 manifold
    de cat
    exhaust
    cams headwork
    re map

    thats about it without turbo/supercharge/throttlebodies

could always stick nirtrous on, thats what I did
  17. #17
did you watch top gear where tehy stripped off everything of motor, lights, interior, basicly every thing not used, they timed it before and after and to be honest it didnt really make that much difference something like 0.2 quicker and that was for removing everything so i wouldnt bother removing your rear seats
  18. #18
0.2 quicker is the difference between a 14. second quarter and a 13. second quarter or 0.2 seconds quicker than someone else per lap makes a huge difference.

lighten & balence the fly wheel - stroker kit form GMC! - wild cams 285 bad boys! keep 14s but on lower profile tyre - quafe gearbox with custom ratios - head work - full exhaust including manifold no cat or sports one & air fiter - Nos - 2 engines - throttle bodies - bigger injectors - that should see a lil improvment in no order tho.... dont forget stickers from halfords! LOL

  21. #21
    Supercharge/turbocharge
    Enclosed induction kit
    A lot of money
    Re-map
    Cams
    Head work
  22. #22
nitrous is cheating as its not on all the time

but it's all good fun tho, its like a little back up he he
  24. #24
go for enclosed induction kit, full ss exhaust with decat
and a 421 manifold. then get yourself some cams and a remap. but before most of that you should invest in a better braking system ie. a 306gti6 front setup will help alot. no point having the peed if you cant stop it
  25. #25
lightening the flywheel loses you torque! and thats what you want for accelleration.

    aswell as all mentoned:

skim the head for compression and lightened/balenced conrods

lol but its not practical, i mean they stripped everything, headlights, complete interior including dash, removed rear lights, bumpers, carpet, radio, heater system, all that for .2 of a sec so i wouldnt even bother takign jsut ya rear seats out wont make much difference at all

better ? vts ? 206gti ? the civic would cream both of them and then some.
  30. #30
Not talking about civics or other cars though
  31. #31
was this test on stripping everything out on a vts.
  32. #32
just do what you want too do. if you dont want to buy a vts and want too surprise people with a quick vtr like i want to but im going to vts engine it if i do it. then go for it. but if you want people to know you have a fairly quick car then get a vts. and get a 182 if you want to be quicker but no a 206gti

    no was an old jag

its all on the circumstance. 1.1 your not gonna bother, the gains are gonna be tiny, but a tuned vts with 100kg taken out of it is a different matter
  35. #35
brakes and suspension are a must mate if your going for big power, no point in having a fast hot-hatch if you can't control it. you might end up in a field.
  36. #36
Yeah... its easy to say buy a vts or new car..

I just want to keep the vtr and mod it.. I will sort the suspension and brakes as 'safety first'..

I just wanted to know if the possible mods, costs, and gains

How much would it cost to get a lot of power

TO MAKE YOUR CAR FASTER BUT WITHOUT THE BURDEN ON YOUR POCKET I FOUND ON ALL OF MY CARS THE CHEAPEST WAY IS TO HAVE THE HEAD SKIMMED, TAKE OFF AROUND 45THOW. THIS CAN BE DONE AT ANY ENGINEERING FACTORY FOR UNDER £30 THIS INCREASES THE COMPRESSION GIVING A LARGER EXPLOSION IN THE PISTON CYLINDER.(for this price you have to take off and put back the head and gasket set and timing belt etc) SECONDLY GET A DECENT AIR FILTER SET UP, THERES NO POINT HAVING ANY MODS IF YOUR CAR CANT BREATH, TO MAKE BIG FIRE IN THOSE PISTONS YOU NEED BIG OXYGEN, AND ALONG WITH THAT YOU NEED A FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR( MANUALY YOU CAN SET IT TO FORCE IN MORE FUEL). ONLY NOW WILL YOU NEED A DECAT PIPE AS THERE WILL BE A LOT OF BURNT FUEL GASES NEEDING TO GET THERE ARSES OUT OF THERE IN THE SHORTEST POSSIBLE TIME.
  39. #39
    filter 150
    manifold 300
    exhaust 300
    decat 60
    cam kit 300
    head 400
    remap 450
there average prices and will give your car vts pace
thats why youll get just drop a vts engine because its more cost effective but its upto you at the end of the day. i could of had a 182 or type r but i chose to mod my vts. hope that helps
