Gear Linkage Bush

  1. #1
My main linkage number 1 in the picture the long one that goes from the gear selector to the bulkhead rubber ball selector is wobbly.

There is play in the plastic bush that the rubber ball sits inside. I was wondering if anyone knows if i can replace the white plastic bush that sits inside the linkage and not the whole linkage as that is £50 + ?

I have replaced 3 smaller linkages, bulkhead selector so new rubber ball, bottom of gear selector bushes x 2.

I had the same problem with my old 106 gti, at the time there were sellers on Ebay selling the complete linkage rod and the ball selector bit itself as a pair for £50. Now I've bought my VTS which has the same problem I can't find them anywhere! Not very helpful I know just thought Id let u know Im in the same boat.

ive came to the conclusion that citreon kind of sacked it and couldnt be bothered when they came to the bushes around the bottom of the gear lever n stuff...

looked about everywhere but looks like i'll have to get the full linkage at £50 what a rip of when all i need is a couple of £'s bush

Well mate if you get the part number for the linkage could you post it up? And where is it £50 is that GSF or somewhere?

Just going to bump this thread rather than start my own new one. My gearstick is a bit floppy which is mainly down to play between the spherical bell crank ball and the bush on the long main selector rod, but there's a little bit of play in everything else as well. I want to replace the entire lot with new parts, so I'm going to get a Compbrake quickshift and the three smaller linkages from Kamracing, but I was wondering is there anyone that does an aftermarket replacement for the bell crank and the long rod and bush? Or do I have to go to Citroen/Peugeot and get ripped off for them both?

its more than likely the pin that goes through one of the selectors on the gearbox causing the play.

I've had a look and there's at least half a cm of up and down play in between the 'ball and bush' that there shouldn't be, so as that's the easiest to fix I'm going to sort that first, then see if it highlights play anywhere else.

My gearstick is very floppy, i thought you could maybe just tighten the linkages? Or are the worn and unrepairable, leaving me with no option than to have new linkages fitted?

Depends on exactly what has worn/failed, theres quite a few different bushes, balljoints and pins that can all have play in in the Saxo gear linkage! Without getting underneath and having a wiggle it's impossible to say which bit you need to replace

If I leave it as it is will it generally get worse and then break completely?

Probably, if the gearstick is that sloppy it also means that you won't be engaging gears correctly which I've read on here can cause premature wear to your synchros in the box, so it's definitely worth sorting out!

you can pick them up from a breaker yard cheap

Yeah but it might be no better than the one I've got! That's why I'd be happier with a new or uprated one if there's any available.

Mine sometimes doesnt feel like its gone into gear all he way, but surely if it wasnt engaged properly then it would either get knocked out of gear or not drive very well?

Hi mate, took my airbox off yesterday to fit my Raceland so got a better look at my gear linkage assembly, the bush in the long selector arm is definitely goosed so I need a new one of those, but also the selector arm on the gearbox, the top most one as you're looking at it has quite a bit of in and out movement. Have you got any more info on the pin and how to change it?

    Also if anyone is interested I went to Citroen to ask about the two parts and this is the info I found;

The main selector rod under the car is a Selection Bar, part no. 2414A7 and the genuine Citroen item is £44.22 inclusive of VAT.

The 'bell crank' that's mounted on the bulkhead with the ball on it is a 'control return', and that's £44.63 inc vat. Both these prices include delivery if ordered from a main dealer so it might work out cheaper than 106parts to order them straight. Unless anyone knows of anywhere cheaper I can get these?

I've just done a search and a few people have said there's a how to guide on replacing the roll pin in the gearbox selector, but I can't find it anywhere. Anyone able to help?
