    New Cam Belt Needed
  4. #4
I wouldnt even start the car up until you replaced that mate.

If it snaps its bye bye engine.. you'll bend a few valves.. usually cheaper to replace engine if it does snap.
  5. #5
    definitely not safe lol

surprised you even need to ask.

not 100% mate, but whilst you're doing it i would recommend changing the water pump whilst the belt is of. i got quoted £150 for timing belt supplied and fitted, also the water pump. However i got lucky and my mate did it for free

  11. #11

    £110!!... I paid £230! was at a pug/citroen specialist though
  14. #14
    deffo replace!
  15. #15
65-ish for full cambelt kit, may as well get water pump done at same time, plus labour, still a shit-load cheaper then repairing the damage it will do when it snaps!
  16. #16
wow your lucky you saw that bet it wouldnt of lasted much longer.
  17. #17
Surprised it hasn't snapped before you noticed it!!
Get a decent kit aswell, the continental kits is what I'd reccomened
  18. #18
cheap belts whine - worth paying the extra £10 or so for a decent one - unless you like the "electric car" soundtrack

Staggered that hasn't already snapped to be honest.
  19. #19
Im amazed that belt hasnt snapped already to be honest!
  20. #20
You were lucky as everybodies said get it replaced asap.
  21. #21
im trying to get it sorted
  22. #22
its going in today been quoted £232 inc vat for a cambelt pulleys and water pump and them to collect it on a recovery truck
  23. #23
Well done - I know it's a bit more expensive, but you've done a very smart thing with the recovery truck.

That's genuinely a very good idea that most people would overlook.
At least it will be sorted, and you'll have a warranty too

just had a call from the garage they think ive bent some valves they doing a compression test on it
  25. #25
    Bad times Michael.....
  26. #26
it would of only bent valves if the timing was out,(by the picture it could of been out due to the belt being in the way it was) which would mean wouldnt start/run shit

valves arent that much to replace so dont worry Plus you can upgrade to Jp4 ones which are bigger

That would suck, although I'm not convinced you will have damaged anything as it looks like the car was still running ok just with damage to the belt. It might have slipped a tooth (or two) but you'd have heard that (contact of the valves on the pistons) and as said above, it would run like dogshit.
  29. #29
apparently when they took the belt off it was split in 3 places and there was a bolt in there which i must of dropped
  30. #30
bah fuck doesnt sound good. hope you hear something positive mate
  31. #31
they taking the head off to see what damage is done
  32. #32
just had a call from the garage 8 valves are fooked total bill will be £560 thats for everything
  33. #33
change it quick lad, dont drive it like that!

Most probably cheaper buying a new engine if you can source one tbh.

bad times.. buying another engine would probably work out cheaper but atleast this engines had a new belt, waterpump, headgasket n pretty much rebuilt head so you know what youve got and it should have some sort of warrenty if something wasnt right
  37. #37
can get a replacement head for cheaper!

definately bent and not just taking you for a ride? (the reason i say is because every time i've had something go on the car, my usual garage used to keep the knackered ones so they could justify the costs (which tbh weren't much!) so i got shown a release bearing in no less than 7 parts once!

Its alright saying its cheaper to buy a replacement engine etc etc but then you have no history on it.

Once this is done atleast you know the cambelt, waterpump, headgasket etc etc is all fine.

I dont think its a bad price at all tbh.
  40. #40
For around that price, you could get a stupidly low milage JP4 put in, including Waterpump, Cambelt and full conversion stuff.
  41. #41
Well i think you've done the right thing personally Mick. Its like people who replace their axle for something they find in a breakers yard.....it lasts 3 months and then they have issues and start moaning lol.
