im currently trying to tighten up my ARB but i cant seem to get the M8 bolt to fit in anyone else had this problem?
Tightening the ARB

#1

#2Front ARB? I had the same problem on mine! I just jiggled it about abit and the bolt fitted, there's no load on the tyres is there ?
-
#3rear arb mate! just keeps killing the thread on the bolt
-
#4Ahhh i see, its because you took the ARB out and the torsion bars twisted, so when your trying to put the bolts back in their not lining up properly and its shagging the threads

Well the rear beams like moved so when your putting the arb the holes are a tiny bit out, just jiggle it abit
-
#5all i did was park up after work, Then i jacked back end up so both wheels of the floor then took passenger side rear wheel off then got an M8 bolt with a good amounth of thread on put on it with a washer then i jsut couldnt get the bolt to grip inside am i doing anything wrong?
-
#6Checked the threads to make sure their clean inside the arb and on the bolt itself? Locktite is used so could have some of that left on the threads making them all shitty
-
#7wip the arb out and pop the m8 in on its own check its clean etc. pop the arb in and hammer it in mate, bang the m8 in and hammer it some more so its proper tight repeat till the m8 is tight etc, no more ping when you go round a corner.
-
#8As said check the internal thread make up a thread chaser if needed by cutting some vertical slots in another m8 bolt then wind it in & out of the hole. Also make sure the new bolt your using has the correct thread.
-
#9Well it could be the thread as i just bought these from B&Q as i didnt know anywhere else to get a bolt to fit? any ideas where i can get a bolt from to do this?
-
#10What do you mean mate? i've had my rear arb out before does that mean my torsion bars are twisted? When I put my ARB in the end plates aren't perfectly symmetrical but all the bolts go in fine etc? I thought this was how it stopped the rear form rolling by being under tension...I think we're taking about different things here lol?Quote:Ahhh i see, its because you took the ARB out and the torsion bars twisted, so when your trying to put the bolts back in their not lining up properly and its shagging the threads

#11Im going to try the hammer both end job just get me and my dad to do it, This will work right?
-
#12well i did the hammer trick and its got it abit only does the pinging noise very light and not often at all im happy with that
-
#13When i took my ARB out it was under load even though the car was jacked up, i dropped the dampers off and then took the ARB out, when i did the torsion bars started to twist and the ARB became tight! When i put the ARB back in i had to use 2 jacks to jack up the trailing arms just to ge the hole in the plate to line upQuote:What do you mean mate? i've had my rear arb out before does that mean my torsion bars are twisted? #14Ah I see mate, mine seems alrite then, as when the car is jacked up it easily comes out its just when you put in the end plate they are about half a centimetre out of symmetry...but the bolts line up to the holes pretty much as its not a large amount...must be normal i think....how did you sort yours?Quote:When i took my ARB out it was under load even though the car was jacked up, i dropped the dampers off and then took the ARB out, when i did the torsion bars started to twist and the ARB became tight!
