Wheel Arches

   Hi all,
   As I often take my car down a road which can get very muddy on my way to work, I am planning to jetwash the mud from the wheel arches after every few washes. However, before I do this, I have noticed a little box with attached cables within the rear driver's side arch. Could anyone tell me what this is please?
   Naturally I will just clean the box and cables with a sponge to avoid damage but I'd just like to know what it is for my own peace of mind.
