Solved: HELP! Car jolts and clicking Noise underbraking

  1. #1
Hi this is my first new thread ,

Basically when i apply the brakes at any speed over about 10-15 MPH i can feel the jolt through the foot pedal thats at low speeds lightly braking.

But if im going say 40 MPH and i need to brake hard a loud clicking noise happends and the whole car will jolt forward and back to a stop , slower than usual.

Also the when i press the brake pedal i have to push much further down than i usually would.

I was thinking worn pads or rotors at first but they seem ok.

    Thanks in advance!

I have this too! My brakes aren't very strong at all, hopefully the mechanic fixes it at the service! Any ideas on what this is guys?

Previous owner told me the rear brakes needed tightening on mine

    Thanks for the reply BenM508.

Could anyone confirm that it is the rear brakes that need tightening?

Also my handbrake is slack so they could do with tightening i guess.

handbrake cable needs tightening which is pretty simple and check out youre rear pads if they look ok then you can tighten them up, theres probably a guid on here if you look mate

    Thanks sebo123,

Yeah your right i just took the car out to get some sugar and i put the handbrake up so it was just about to bite and it resolved the problem i think my rear pads are worn out tbh from looking at the handbrake adjuster, but it may be a quick fix for now unitil i can afford new pads.

Good to know its only a small thing wrong was begging to think my callipers had had it.

i would defo be checking my callipers c if anything is loose maybe the pads, are they disc's or drums on the back, if you got drums one of the shoes could be loose best advise strip them down and check for any unusual play or anything out of the ordinary
