vtr running rough

OK guy's i have a very poorly vtr!! was out last night in her and she randomly started running rough sounded like a tank!!! though it was a hole in the exhaust so i got it home and had a look this morning to find out when i took the coil pack off a spark plug came off with it and it looked like a valve or something had hit the spark plug as it was damaged so i have had the head off to see if there is any damage and there is no sign at all of any damage done to the valves or the pistons??? im a bit puzzled with this one as i have never seen this before??? i spoke to some one and 2 of the spark plug hole on the head look cleaner than the other 2 and was told maybe it has got to hot???

What are the spark plug threads like(condition)wise?
  3. #3
Have the threads stripped? Ive known of engines that have blown a plug out as the threads were weak!

the thread look's a bit of a mess at the bottom of the spark plug. . but on the cylinder head when u put a plug in it just drops through so there is no thread there. . . also one of the plug's was a bit lose next to it. . . i been told to get a helicoil?

This happened to me.. spat plug 3 out at 5k rpm.

    Helicoil, and been fine since.

yea exactly the same spark plug 3 but it happend around 2thousand revs

If the spark plug thread is stripped then why the need for new sensors?

why the need for new sensor's? the thread on the spark plug is ok its cross threaded at the bottom about 4 or 5 turns up but the thread on the head has gone and the spark plug just sit's inside it. . . . . . im thinking about helicoiling the head and putting new cambelt and headgasket on or just doing a straight engine swap

ok engine up and running after getting the head helicoiled and new cambelt and headgasket was pretty easy to do apart from cambelt but got there! problem is my engine managment light is staying on and im not sure if it will have to be put on a computer to get rid of it or to disconect my battery and ecu??
  12. #12
just leave the battery off over night or sometimes driving it a couple of miles might help also y was your cambelt hard to do as i wanna do mine soon
  13. #13
cambelt's on the vtr's are pretty straight forward to be honest it's just getting the cambelt cover's off that is a pain just make sure when before u take your old cambelt off you mark the bottom pully and the side of the engine with tipex so the timing isnt out i forgot to do it to mine but managed to sort it all out. . i done the water pump and tensioner aswell when changing cambelt and headgasket dont have to but it's a bit more peace of mind

yeah its quite easy to do the cambelt on 8v I like to mark the old belt and pulleys then transfer the marks to the new belt before putting it back togeather just makes sure you don't end up gettin it a tooth and have to redo it all
