Steering cuts engine out!!

  1. #1
Hi guys. I'm posting this on behalf of my mate who is not online. He has a 1.1 saxo 1999, NON power steering. the car starts, but when he turns the steering just a fraction, the engine cuts out. we did voltage tests on it today, and when its cutting out, from the bulkhead back the whole car is reading 12-13 volts on the earth and body of the car. turn the steering back again and the engine fires up again. There is no wires touching the rack, and all wires going through the bulkhead have been chacked and are in 1 piece. We really cant understand why its only when the steering is turned it happens, as the car in NOT power steering. Please help as my mate is gonna start crying soon lol!!!

the steering cant alter it as you say its non PAS it has to be an electrical fault connected to the steering movement as in a wire is catching have you checked the wiring around the steering column area to see if something is a miss there

Have tested everything we can find including removing all uneccessary fuses and auxillary systems. Even with only 3 fuses left the engine was still cutting out when turning the steering

Inside the car on take off the upper & lower ignition column shrouds & make sure there are no bare wires touching the steering column.

Have removed steering colomn entirely from the rack and also rack from bulkhead, problem still occurs when turning wheels by hand
