Important! : Fuel guage on GTi...

  1. #1
Hey guys, I've ran searches and tried google etc but can't seem to find an answer to this...

My fuel guage is a bit of an idiot... It doesnt bother me that sometimes it goes up and down a few times and stops working, but what does bother me is that it reads totally wrong...

When full it's full, when empty it reads half and I have no fuel light...

I've tried a workin speedo cluster from a Mates car and it does the same...

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

    Useful link, thanks.

My PumP is under one of those cOvers and the float seems okay, but the other cover has nothing under it, is this normal?

Sounds like you need a replacement sender unit/pump

That's a bugger, shall have to see what I can find - can the sender unit be bought separately to the pump?

    Rough idea on cost?

Still got hassle with this - Ive physically turned the pump around by about 70 degrees and thats helped it to be more accurate, though when it gets as low as the top marking on the red, it stays there until i break down, the light just doesn't come on.

Does anyone have a picture of the top of their pump under the black cap so i can see exactly which way they sit in and i can remove / fiddle with it and maybe eventually replace it, perhaps the pump is on its way out causing my occasional stutter / lumpy idle?
