Important! : Fitting front lowering springs???

  1. #1
I went to fit the lowering springs on my saxo today and couldnt find a spanner to use to take the strut top off to remove the spring.
Do i just need to buy a 18mm swan neck spanner or is there a special tool tht i need to get to remove it??
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Cheers lee

I managed to do it with normal tools mate.. Not sure what you are trying to undo ?

swann kneck spanner and a star drive/allen key in the top to stop the piston moving.

    Ratchet and deep socket?

    I used a deep socket !!

i think he means the nut that holes the top mount on to the spring guys, the one you need a swann kneck spanner and allen key to undo.

I know, I used a deep socket and some mole grips to hold the rod (not really recommended but I did use a rag so it didnt score it)

I tried using a socket but it wont work because when you turn the bolt off the centre bolt will just spin and to stop this you need to use a allen key as said by rick_vtr.
i think i will go buy a swan neck spanner and try again.

yer the proper way is to use swan nect spanner and allen key inside the shock thread but if you are clear you can use stillsons with a rag of the top mount with a socket. last option is heat up the locking nut on top then get it off

Swan neck spanners make it so much easier

Also could use a spark plug socket then get a normal ring spanner on top of it along with allan/tork bit

Or you could just go to a local garage and ask them to loosen them off with a air gun

or you could use a normal socket, and just turn it with some mole grips. works fine for me
