chipped lug on camshaft - will it affect useage

  1. #1
managed to chip a lug when removing a camshaft, will this affect how it works

  2. #2
    How did that happen
  3. #3
removed the locking plate as pictured and was a bit too eager when removing the shaft itself lol, i can not see any reason why it would affect useage but want to make sure before i sell it.

I think that's knackered mate if it's at the pulley end? If the lug doesn't serve any purpose and its at the other end then I guess it could be okay, hard to tell without seeing it in situ though I can't remember what they look like under the covers!

no pulley is at other end, this end just sits in a casing filled with oil, the camshaft is held in by 2 grooves (one at either end) and 3 more in the middle as well as the locater in the picture, it was such a small piece that broke i really cant see it being an issue as nothing connects to it

If it's not at the pulley end then I think you'll be fine! Though obviously it's gonna detract from the value a bit I'm afraid! What cams are they?

Not even sure what the lug at the end is for, only thing I can think of is some engines have distributors driven by the opposite end of the camshaft but the 16v doesn't!

its a kent pt40 for a 8v, doesnt have a distributer it has a coilpack, the top one has the manufacturers mark and bottom is just blank, it sat in a hollow case with oil flowing to and from it to keep the locator oiled.
