Need a new gearbox :/

    Good Day Sax - P

Took my MK2 VTR to the garage today because the gearbox has been making a noise recently which I wanted looking at, apparently its the main bearings and I need a new box. He quoted me £50 + VAT for a box, £175 + VAT in labour and then a clutch, fluids etc and then said it would cost £700 + VAT, Don't know how he figured that out. So basically I'm gonna bite the bullet and have a go at sourcing my own VTR box and fitting it,

I just need to know things I should take note of or things I could do while I've got the box out, any advice would be appreciated. Should i put a new clutch in while its all out? All Help Appreciated!

You could find a box yourself and get someone to fit for no more than a £100.

I would personally get your box reconned should be no more than £400.

Get one off Ebay or source one off here. I paid £30 for a 1.0 box and works a treat. if doing it yourself maybe consider doing your clutch whilst you have the box off as will save a few quid if it does go. You can always check it whilst youv got it all apart.

No don't do shafts in less they need doing. I am in same position my input shaft bearing is going . I am trying to find a 1.4xsi box.

I know a guy that recons boxes for £275 that is with all the seals and bearing changed.
