Central locking fob

My grandad had an x reg saxo and a small two button key fob. The fob has broken and is beyond repair.

I have read about getting a new one from ebay and programming it yourself by unlocking the car on the drivers door and pressing a button on the fob within a time.

    Is it really that easy?

i beleive in the manual it had a section on programming a fob, do you have the manual or want me to have a flick through?

I wouldn't bet on me being able to find the manual so if you wouldn't mind...

We had previously replaced the casing with an eBay one but the battery kept coming loose when the button were pushed which resulted in it rattling around inside the fob, there was then some residue on the pcb and now it no longer works.

Hmm, just been reading and looks like the unlock method is just for resynching the fob and not actually anything to do with keying it to the car.

    Bah.

Well he went to the dealers and basically paid £90+£15 to code it and they couldn't do it, so he's had to pay another £15 for something else for them to attempt :s

    Daylight robbery.

so am i right in thinking that if i replace a battery on a fob that was working i can re-sync it using the method from handbook?
