exhaust paste

   today ive been fixing (or should i say bodging) a universal backbox onto my sax to get it thru MOT until i have enough money for a decent one. i havnt got a welder at the minute either so I used good old jubilee clips and exhaust paste (and a bandage underneath the exhaust paste)
   
   however ive run out of exhaust paste and my exhaust is still blowing so im gunna leave it over night to harden and gunna apply some more tmorrow when i get some. i was wondering out of experience which paste would u lot say was best value for money??

   its all the same
   
   you do know he can fail it if its not in serviceble repair? eg hel not pass a bodge job

   How do you think it will pass if its bait, you cant just wack it on pal.

   well its all safe eg there is no play in the pipes etc just used exhaust paste so there isnt any leakages in the joints..thats fair enough isnt it? ive known loads of people attatch backboxes this way and sail through MOT?

   by the way youve described what your doing, hes well in his right to fail it, by thge sounds of it, itll be blowing by the time you get there

   i'll ring the tester tomorrow and ask what he deems as acceptable. ive had a quick scan on the internet and found a few people saying if the rest of the exhaust is in a sound condition (which it is) and the repair is rigid enough they will pass it.

   id be dubious, if its a big enough "hole" for you not to be able to block it for starters, id be VERY surprised if it didnt crack of blow before you got to the test centre
   
   then its a fail, just go to a garage, normally chrg aout £20 to weld back boxes up
   
   the exhaust does get alot of stress/movement from the engine when driving

   fair doos mate ive took your advice under my wing and got rid of the exhaust paste (it wasnt set anyway. shit stuff)
   
   what it is that im doin is attatching a length of pipe from my backbox to fit to the middle pipe, but this time using U bolts and high temp silicone. hopefully this will see me thru better.

   I bodged an exhaust system with a lot of fibreglass paste and then used a coke can and clamps to hold it in. I crawled to the mot place and it passed but it pretty much fell off after ragging the car on the way home..

    i was struggling to join two bits of pipe together (the middle pipe and the pipe from the back of the box) so i just whacked a coke can round it and put U bolts either side and used high temp gasket silicone to seal the join. will this pass MOT??? fingers crossed
