Car is rubbing at 60mm

  1. #1
My VTR is rubbing on vts wheels lowered to 60mm, It rubs on full lock its not rubbing above the wheel arch its rubbing down the side towards the engine bay :s

What can I lower this by so it does not rub into the arch ?

IF I buy 50mm VTS springs will it lower the VTR 40mm?

Just try putting some spacers on the front and back..5 or 10mm will be enough i'd imagine. Also what wheels do you have on the car?

Wheels are VTS rims and standard 195/45/15 tyres.

Do you think spacers will sort this problem out then?

Seems weird that they are scrubbing in the first place. I'd have thought they would yeah as the wheels would sit slightly further away from the arches. What tyres are on the s wheels?

    195/45/15

So shall I go for 10mm spacers ? I don't understand why mine rub and others don't and also how its rubbing on the inner arch instead of the top of the arch :s don't get it.

What could be causing this apart from the springs? anything?

Sorry i meant what make of tyres as some have quite round sidewalls which tend to rub more.

Tbh i think 5mm will be enough but 10 will give more poke and a better stance so upto you. I'm not saying it will stop it scrubbing but i think it will mate. The tracking may also be an issue with it scrubbing...Are the springs in the cups properly? as if they aren't sitting right that may also lead to the problem.

I bought the car with budget tyres on. If I got 10mm spacers do you think the wheels will come out too much ?

Will book it in to see if it needs tracking I don't know any garages that touch lowered cars though

mines lowered 60mm all round with 195/45/15's too, mine rubs on full lock. spacers will sort this (iv not got any yet)

rears scrubbed on bumper and liners, i got angle grinder to the lip behind bumper and cut it all off, doesnt rub anymore.

Mines 50mm all around and mine rub on full lock only, will this fail on m.o.t if the marks where it rubs are seen?
  10. #10
just dont give it full lock

10 will be fine but you"d have to space the rear our more otherwise it won't look right. You could do 5mm at front and 10mm at the rear....I'd get spacers first and as for tracking...if you let go of the wheel, just release your grip slightly not fling your arms back. See where the car goes. Make sure you"re on a straight road with no camber. It should very slightly pull left. Also check your tyres for even wear. Do you do many motorway miles or mostly town and A roads?

No not to my knowledge. I've never heard of people having problems failing due to this.

There must be something wrong then mate, my VTS when i bought it was 80mm all round on VTS wheels 195/45/15's and had no rubbing what so ever.

theres nothing wrong, i just need spacers

iv not got vts alloys on mine, maybe my rubbing has something to do with different wheels ( 205gti)

They rub even at standard height. Put some 5mm spacers on there, that should sort it out abit

if its rubbing on the inner rear arches then your trailing arm bearings are probably fooked bud. or close to being fooked
  18. #18
I will try 5mm spacers, For those that are saying its not rubbing at 70m or 80m at the front that is bullshit.

is that the first picture of your progress thread?

Update on this put 5mm spacers on and it still rubs.

Are the VTS wheel ofsets alot different to vtr wheels this may be my problem?

If i changed the vts wheels to VTR ones would the car still rub or not ?
  32. #32
When mine was lowered 60mm on vts wheels 195/45/15, I didn't rub at all. Not even on the back.
I'm down 80mm on the front now and still on 15's it don't rub.
  33. #33
mine doesnt rub on vtr wheels im down 50mm but wudnt of thought 10mm will make much difference but i'd go for bigger spacers if I was you vts rims look a lot better
